Hollywood actress Gemma Chan, best known for her roles in Crazy Rich Asians, Eternals, and The Creator, has officially joined the cast of 007 First Light as Selina Tan, MI6’s Head of Tactical Simulation. Chan will lend both her likeness and voice to the character of Selina Tan in 007 First Light, marking the first time the award-winning actress has portrayed a video game character outside of her voice-only role in Season 2 of Diablo 4.
As 007 First Light is a completely new James Bond story featuring an all-new roster, Selina Tan will be an original role created solely for the upcoming video game. The story of 007 First Light will focus on the early days of James Bond, who will be a fresh-faced 26-year-old MI6 recruit portrayed by Irish actor Patrick Gibson, best known for his role as a young Dexter Morgan in Dexter: Original Sin. As the title is being developed by Hitman studio IO Interactive, fans can expect plenty of stealth-action combined with cinematic storytelling.
Gemma Chan Joins 007 First Light Cast
Earlier this month, prominent cast members for 007 First Light were officially revealed. Patrick Gibson will play James Bond, Priyanga Burford will portray M, and Kiera Lester will play Moneypenny. Now, alongside the already huge ensemble cast, IO Interactive has announced that Marvel actress Gemma Chan will be joining 007 First Light as Selina Tan. The actress said joining the world of James Bond in video games “has been such an exciting experience.” IO Interactive says Tan is a senior MI6 figure who oversees the agency’s Tactical Simulations division, a program designed to test and refine the skills of Britain’s most promising recruits. Once a rising star in academia with a background in psychology and strategy, she later made her mark in the private sector, leading advanced research in immersive technologies, before joining MI6 to spearhead the Tactical Simulation Division.
There’s no denying that 007 First Light has an absolutely stacked cast, with Lennie James, best known for his role in The Walking Dead, also starring in First Light as Greenway. But one thing IO Interactive wants to make perfectly clear to fans is that 007 First Light is not simply a Hitman reskin. In a recent interview with Thumb Wars, the studio said that it had never even considered reskinning Hitman and passing it off as a James Bond game. Art director Rasmus Poulsen told the outlet that the studio went with “a really creative approach” tailored specifically to Bond.
007 First Light isn’t set to launch until March of 2026, but the title recently received its very own dedicated State of Play event earlier this month. The 30-minute gameplay reveal gave fans their best look yet at the upcoming espionage game, but some fans believe the deep dive didn’t do 007 First Light any favors. Many were quick to point out the stuttering frame rates throughout the event, but fans did praise the gorgeous setting and gameplay. As there are still six months to go until launch, many are hoping that the frame rate issues will be addressed by the time of its release.
